When not at Eastside Vet Holly has a graphic design and pet portrait business, which is how she she had the good fortune of connecting with Dr. Hung. When not working she loves spending time with her husband, two teenage kids, and three Bengal cats.
At what age did you know you wanted to work with pets?
As young as I can remember I have always loved being around animals. Because I have a bachelor of fine arts degree and have been in the graphic design field since college I never thought I would actually get to work with them, it’s been such a great twist of fate that now I do.
If you were an animal what would you be and why?
A cat. I love how independent and athletic they are.
What is the most interesting animal that you have worked with?
Horses. Before my husband and I started a family I loved to go horseback riding. Connecting with the horse while brushing and getting it ready for the ride was so enjoyable.
What animal would you love to work with?
Giraffe. The closest I’ve every gotten to one is feeding it carrots at the zoo!
What is something that your pets have taught you that you feel sharing with others?
You can never give too much love to those you care about.
What is your favorite thing to do on your days off?
Getting outdoors and challenging myself. That has included biking across country with my husband, and summiting Mt. Rainier. Running numerous marathons, 2 of which have been with my daughter. Snowboarding and mountain biking with my son. Most of all I love when all four of us go hiking together.
If you were stranded on a deserted island, what 3 things would you have and why?
A helicopter, fuel, and a pilot… so I can get off!
What’s your favorite movie?
Any of the Harry Potter movies. No matter how many times you see them they still are so fun.
Do you have a favorite quote, mantra or life motto? If so, what is it?
Don’t judge a book by it’s cover.
How did your pets get their names?
Rolo – because he reminded us of the candy, he’s caramel colored with brown spots.
Mackeson – he’s a melanistic bengal, black with black spots. My husband named him after a British stout beer.
Marzipan – she’s a lighter traditionally spotted bengal. We wanted a candy related name to go with Rolo and I love Marzipan and she’s the color of it.
What’s your favorite book?
Pete Souza’s “The Obama Years”
What brings you most joy at work?
When we are able to help a pet feel better and the relief on their owner’s face when they know everything is going to be ok.
